Profile:

I grew up on the East coast of America. I started swimming when I was six years-old and I have been swimming ever since! Even as a youngster, I was assisting swim instructors! Swimming also sparked a love for fitness and I left my career in social care to work in personal training and to be the Netherlands after meeting the Dutch love of my life. I hold a bachelor’s in social work issued by University of Maryland USA, and am a certified Personal trainer issued by The American College of Sports Medicine.  I constantly update my lifeguard skills as well as first aid and CPR. In addition to coaching swimming, I have also started my own fitness studio called, Body Barr.

Coaching Style:

I believe practice is key and secondly, that everyone learns differently. So, in each class I physically demonstrate and verbally explain the strokes. In my classes, students are expected to practice the strokes and drills assigned to them. With positive feedback and encouragement, they can grow and keep on learning.  Everyone can learn to swim although it may take a little while.  I believe swimming is an exercise for all types of people and the amount of flexibility, as well as agility one acquires, increases the body’s stamina and mental acuity.

Specialties:

I am successful with students who are determined to learn to swim and who try their best in every class. My lessons are based on improving what the students can already do followed by teaching them new skills. This way I can coach anyone who is ready for it.

‘’If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again!’’
