About Lena

I learned to swim at a young age and joined my first swimming club when I was 9 years old, but I quickly realized that I don’t want to do competitive swimming but rather learn about water safety.  Since 2010 I’m a member of the German lifesaving association (DLRG). Over the years it became increasingly clear to me how important it is to be able to swim properly and feel safe in the water to not only protect yourself but also others.

I am currently doing my master in brain and cognitive science at the University of Amsterdam

“Just because you’re struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing.”

Coaching Style

I believe that the best way to learn something new is to feel comfortable during the process, by creating an environment in which each person feels secure enough to face their challenges. Everyone learns different techniques/strokes at a different pace, especially the first steps can be very challenging, so patience and understanding are two important factors for me.

Certifications

International Pool lifeguard (2017)

Surf rescue certificate (2014)

Specialities

I really enjoy teaching students that are new to swimming, to help them feel comfortable and safe in the water while finding their love for swimming. I also enjoy helping students overcome their fear of water or deep water, I try to use my background in neuroscience to help them feeling good and safe in the water.

“Rise and Shine! Everybody should be able to enjoy the water!”.”
