Profile:
I grew up in a landlocked city in India having no exposure to swimming except perhaps the shallow local kids’ pool; however I didn’t have the opportunity to learn when I was a kid.
In 2015, I had an accident and I drowned in the open sea in Goa while partying with friends. 2 of my friends who are good swimmers rescued me that day and few years later in 2018 they also tried to help me learn swimming in the kids’ pool – however it didn’t work, I had given up and let the fear win.
When I came to Netherlands in 2021, my partner was signing up for swim classes and she encouraged me to try at least once more to learn how to swim along with her.
Me and my partner had our first swim class at YPSC with coach Mia in Feb 2023 and about 1,5 years later I had earned my C diploma. While further exploring about professional training, I am continuing on my learning path. Now I can’t wait to get back in the pool, even a week’s break seems too long and also we plan our vacations around being able to swim in the open waters.
I believe if I can, then everyone can learn swimming and be able to enjoy water as a form of leisurely hobby or exercise for overall fitness. With the right coaching, one can learn the tools needed to become comfortable with water and remember their training in unfamiliar waters.
Coming form the other side and learning as an adult, I believe I can help and share my experiences and also share my enthusiasm & delight of swimming.
I also practice indoor cliff diving, bouldering and cycling. Professionally, I am a fintech consultant.
Coaching Style:
I prefer to explain, both theoretically & practically, the exercises/drills and the output result we expect from performing the drill/exercise. This way the swimmer can immediately gauge their level and continue working for the goal. I believe in constant communication & feedback between the coach and the swimmer.
I focus on starting small ensuring the comfort level of swimmers and then slowly stepping up the exercises to allow building the confidence and enthusiasm of swimmers while simultaneously making measurable gains in the skill.
Specialties:
I am comfortable with swimmers at all levels. I am able to quickly connect and empathize with relative beginners and help them by joining them in water and ensuring they feel safe and comfortable. I am also able to help intermediate and advanced swimmers, helping them improve their strokes or survival skills or diving and underwater swimming skills.
“Anyone can learn swimming and its never too late to try again.”
