Profile:
Growing up near the Welsh coast, I’ve always been drawn to water. As a child, any glimpse of the sea, lake, river, or pool would lure me in. This love for water still defines me today. When I’m not in the pool, you might spot me exploring Utrecht lakes and canals. For me, being in water is suchfreedom.
At 4 years old, my parents began to take me swimming at a local holiday complex. I continued with weekly swimming sessions in primary school, and weekend lessons at my local pool. Throughout secondary school, I represented both my school and county in swimming competitions. My passion for swimming remained throughout my adult life, and I am a former member of the South London Swimming Club.
Professionally, I’m a trained biomedical scientist working as a project manager in biotechnology. Recently, I diversified my career by becoming a certified Health and Wellness Coach. At Your Personal Swim Coach, I get to combine coaching and swimming. My aim is to share my love for the sport by helping others not only learn this crucial life-skill but to feel at ease, and joyful in the water.
Coaching style:
During lessons, I like to come prepared with a flexible plan and then let the students also be a guide depending on their confidence in the water and progress.
I think it’s important to really listen, and take on feedback from my swimmers, particularly when they are not confident in water or are first learning to swim in deep water.
Specialties:
I love to work with students during the early stages of Water Introduction, and to help find ways that they can get accustomed to the water. This is also a stage where you can see big improvements quite quickly, and that is very satisfying for me as a coach.
