Profile:
Growing up, learning to swim was very important to my family. We all learned to swim at a young age, and all chose to do it competitively. I began at age 8 and contnued through college. The benefits from the sport helped shape who I became as a person, so much so that I went into coaching after finishing my Psychology degree to use those tools to help others. Learning to swim brings not only confidence, but also opens up a whole new way to exercise, relax, and engage with others
Since moving to the Netherlands in 2019, I have been a full-time stay at home mom to my wonderful daughter and recently went back in to teaching swimming, working with children and now adults!
Coaching style:
I try to meet swimmers where they are and learn what motivates them. I understand that there may be some fear and frustraton in the learning process and try to tackle that with each student, giving them both physical and mental tools to help them accomplish their goals.
I like to celebrate the small steps forward while stll challenging them to reach what is next. Swimmers should leave each lesson with more confidence, a feeling of success in the water, and an idea of what they can accomplish next!
Swimming Certifications, Achievements, & Recognitions:
- Certified USA Swimming Coach (2007-)
- Coached USA Swimming Futures finalists, National, Junior National, and Olympic Trial qualifiers, and a World University Games Silver Medalist.
- Coached NCAA Division I and Division III (earned Men’s Coach of the Year)
Specialties:
I have been very successful taking beginner swimmers and helping them transition into a swimmer who loves the water and looks forward to swimming!
I have also found recently that I really enjoy helping swimmers who may have some fear about being in the water overcome that and learn to trust themselves and develop skills (mental and physical) to allow them to relax in the water.
